There are many types of fiber used in carpet, but the most common are nylon, polyester, polypropylene, acrylic, and wool. We sell and install all of these styles and fibers, and are here to help you pick the perfect carpet for your space. For reference, here is a bit of information about some of these best-selling fibers. For more in-depth information, please visit our showroom or contact us.

Nylon is the most popular of the carpet fibers, and is our best-seller. It is very soft, durable, and stain-resistant resistant. Because of this, it is estimated that about 90% of all homes have nylon carpet. It is also pretty affordably priced. If cared for well, and properly, nylon carpet can last about 12 to 15 years.

Polypropylene (often called Olefin) is the second best-selling carpet fiber. It’s used in about 80% of commercial applications. It is becoming increasingly popular for use in homes, since it wears well and is almost as soft as nylon. Polypropylene is highly stain-resistant but is prone to soiling. It also holds onto oils, which in turn, collect dirt. However, it is still relatively easy to clean. It is important to note that polypropylene is not as resilient as nylon. Price wise, polypropylene is slightly less than most nylon carpets, but more than both polyester and acrylic.

Polyester is best known for being the non-allergenic carpet fiber. One type of polyester carpet, known as polyester/PET, is made from recycled plastic bottles, making it also eco-friendly. It also is known for being fade-resistant, even when it comes to bright or bold colors. Unfortunately though, polyester is prone to flattening under weight, making it a poor choice for high-traffic areas. It can also be prone to oil stains, which are very difficult to remove from polyester.

Acrylic carpet is sometimes referred to as "synthetic wool" because it mimics the feel and appearance of wool, but costs a fraction of the price. While acrylic has a good resistance to moisture, fading, and staining, it’s not very durable, and doesn't hold up well in high-traffic areas. Additionally, acrylic carpet can turn brown if stained with certain alkaline chemicals, often found in cleaning products.

Wool is by far the softest carpet fiber you can buy. Unfortunately though, the luxurious feel does come at a price, as high-grade wool is extremely expensive. While low-grade wool is more affordable than high-grade, it is susceptible to staining. Some manufacturers will combine wool and synthetic fibers to create a carpet with the benefits of both (with wool/acrylic blends being especially common.) Pure wool carpet is made with no chemicals or additives, which makes it an excellent choice for those with allergies or sensitivities. However, being a natural material, wool can be prone to damage from mold and mildew, which feed on organic substances. Wool is therefore not an ideal choice for areas where high humidity and moisture are an issue.

Our team will work with you to learn about your space and will guide you toward to the best carpet fiber for you and your space. To get started, or for more in-depth information, please visit our showroom or contact us. We look forward to working with you!

Hard surface flooring

There are many types of hard surface flooring, but the most common are engineered wood, LVP (Luxury Vinyl Plank), LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile), Laminate and Vinyl flooring. We sell and install all of these types, and are here to help you pick the perfect hard surface flooring for your space. For reference, here is a bit of information about some of these best-selling flooring options. For more in-depth information, please visit our showroom or contact us.

Engineered Wood, also known as “man-made wood” or “composite wood,” is a versatile, and more affordable alternative to hardwood. It is constructed from multiple layers of wood called ply, that have been reformed using heat, glue and pressure. Each layer runs in different directions, making it very stable and giving it a good resistance to warping. Good quality engineered wood is durable and long-lasting.

Engineered hardwood is different than laminate in that contains a top layer of solid wood, while laminate flooring has a photographic layer coated with a wear-layer that appears to look like a wood surface. In addition, laminate flooring is usually thinner than engineered hardwood.

Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) imitates real hardwood flooring. It has the same colors and textures, but at a fraction of the cost. Besides affordability, this flooring brings additional benefits to your space. Being both waterproof and scratch resistant, LVP is a great option for homes with furry friends or kids. LVP often features the same embossing and texture that real wood has, giving it a deceivingly authentic look. Additionally, cleaning LVP is simple—just sweep or vacuum daily, and occasionally use a damp mop with warm water. LVP is a great, affordable and practical flooring solution.

Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) imitates ceramic tile and stone, at a much lower cost. It is also easy to clean and durable. An added benefit, is that it is much quieter, and softer than actual stone or ceramic tile.

Since they are constructed the same way, the difference comes down to style preference. If you are looking for the wood plank look, LVP is for you. However, if the ceramic tile or stone look would suit you better, we would suggest LVT.

Laminate is similar to engineered wood and luxury vinyl, in that it imitates hardwood flooring. Unlike engineered wood or luxury vinyl, laminate flooring is “floated,” which means it isn’t fastened to the subfloor by staples, nails or glue. Instead, it uses an interlocking system that allows each “plank” to click-lock into each other.

One downfall to laminate flooring, is that it cannot tolerate pooled water. Virtually all laminate flooring uses a fiberboard core. Because this core is a wood product, it will soften and swell if it is exposed to water. Therefore, it is not suggested for bathrooms, kitchens, etc. It is best to clean laminate flooring with dry methods, such as with a dry mop or broom. Engineered wood or luxury vinyl is a better choice when you need water resistance, lifespan, and durability in your flooring. Laminate is preferable if you just want a new look, lower costs, and a comfortable feel underfoot.

Vinyl flooring, being that it is modeled after wood flooring, mimics the look of natural hardwood floors, while being much more cost-effective than hardwood floors, however it is also different than luxury vinyl. Luxury vinyl is comprised of several different layers of different materials, creating a durable and highly affordable hard surface flooring option. The several different layers are as follows: base layer, fiberglass, cushion layer, pattern layer, wear layer, and lastly, the top coat.

Unlike luxury vinyl, sheet vinyl flooring is vinyl flooring that comes in large, continuous, flexible sheets, making it extra cost effective.

In addition to being one of the most affordable hard surface options, vinyl flooring is popular due to the fact that it is also extremely durable and practical. Unlike laminate, vinyl flooring does not contain wood, and is instead composed of synthetic materials. While this may seem like con to vinyl, it is actually a benefit. A vinyl sheet floor is totally impermeable to water, while laminate, vinyl floor tile and vinyl planks are not. Because vinyl flooring is water resistant, it's perfect for areas prone to moisture, spills, or wetness, like bathrooms, kitchens, basements, and more.

When it comes to installation, we don’t just show up, install and leave. We are careful, detail-oriented, and we get the job done right. We prep the flooring beforehand—grinding the high areas, and floating the low areas. We get our lines straight and floors perfectly leveled. Because of all these detailed steps we take, we ensure a great installation that will last for several years to come. Once installation is complete, our job still isn’t finished. Our team will always be available to address any potential questions or concerns.
